The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg has been on the news the past year frequently. He recently unveiled his plans to integrate Facebook’s chat services, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger with the company’s photo-sharing application, Instagram. This new feature will possibly allow users to communicate across platforms. Mark Zuckerberg called this a long term project and that cross-app messaging may happen anytime in 2020 or in the future beyond 2020. WABetaInfo, a fan-run website which provides users details of updates to WhatsApp noticed the new feature and said that WhatsApp from Facebook is added to the WhatsApp status of newly registered users. Since September 2019, WhatsApp Android users have had the option to share their WhatsApp status on to their Facebook stories directly through a button that appears after a user posts a story on the popular messaging app. WhatsApp statuses, just like Instagram stories last for 24 hours from the time or uploading or till the user removes them. WhatsApp status currently lets users post images, text and videos which last for 24 hours as their status. Facebook’s video calling facility also works with a WhatsApp account and allows users to video call their contacts and see the stories of their friends and family even without a Facebook account. Zuckerberg said that the data encryption feature held more charm to him than the commercial benefits of complete integration between the three platforms. He said that he is excited that the integration will mean end-to-end encryption in more Facebook products letting users save their privacy and data by encryption. He also said that a number of users have requested the ability to message their friends across platforms. The integration could also largely help give out higher user engagement to advertisers growing companies who look to Facebook ads for marketing their products and services.
